Write on ! Ukraine.

Write On! Ukraine: School-Gymnasium 1.

On the week of February 22nd-27th, the Peace Corps held a national creative writing competition, open to all students within Ukraine who wanted a chance to express their imagination with paper and pen. This competition looks at students’ creativity and imagination rather than their grammar or spelling, highlighting their knowledge of the English language and the ways they are able to express themselves. As we have completed the initial writing, it is now time for Peace Corps Volunteers around the country to judge the writing against a creative criteria at the village/town, oblast, national and international level. Write On! is an international competition and final judging will take place in the country of Georgia with all the submissions coming from around the world!

On Monday, February 22, we were incredible happy to host seven students from the sixth form for their first Write On! submissions, including: Marina Chalenko, Isabel Tsehmeistruk, Olesya Cholovska, Nicole Mischinska, Tania Kaschuk, Antomina Bondar and Angelina Kravets! These ladies participated in their very first Write On! competition and we are very proud of their excitement to be a part of this creative experience! The second writing took place on Friday, February 26, where eleven brave students of the seventh, ninth and eleventh forms put their imaginations to the test with the prompts provided by the international Write On! creators. Of the seventh form: Anna Pastushenko, Anna Potapenko, Alina Kuharik, Veronika Yushchenko, Kate Limaruk, and Ira Haluzinska! Representing the ninth form were Veronika Argatyuk and Andrew Poedinctuk! And from the eleventh form: Ann Kolomiets, Olya Shevchuk and Sergiy Malitskiy!

Each writer received a certificate on behalf of the Peace Corps for their participation in this creative challenge and the winners of the town, oblast and country-level will be announced after the weekend of March 18, 2016. There will be additional prizes for the winners of these higher levels and of course, at the international level! Thank you to all those who participated in this creative writing competition, we will be hosting more creatively-themed clubs in the future as this competition will be held once again in February 2017! Keep thinking creatively and use those imaginations!

Thank you to School-gymnasium 1 for the use of the English Cabinet everyday and the unfailing support from all the teachers and staff! Peace Corps could not make these competitions possible without your help and encouragement of the students to think outside the box!
